Grand Farewell for Financial Guru Peter Chukwuemeka Aneke as Festac, Okpatu Stand Still

The remains of renowned financial expert, philanthropist and community leader, Peter Chukwuemeka Aneke, were laid to rest in a series of well-attended ceremonies that drew dignitaries, family members and associates from across Nigeria and the diaspora.
Fondly known as Ichie Onyefee-Eze and Ohan-Fere, the late Aneke was honoured with elaborate funeral rites spanning two weeks in Festac Town, Lagos, and his hometown of Umuchime Okpatu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Wake and Service of Songs in Lagos
The funeral activities commenced in Lagos with a Service of Songs and wake at the Holy Family Event Centre, Festac Town. The event attracted prominent personalities from the financial sector, church community, traditional institutions and long-standing associates who gathered to pay their last respects.
Tributes poured in describing Aneke as a consummate professional, a bridge builder and a philanthropist who impacted lives across social, ethnic and religious divides. Speakers extolled his humility, generosity and commitment to mentoring younger professionals in the financial services industry.
At the Requiem Mass held at the Catholic Church of Visitation, Festac Town, officiating priests described the deceased as a devout Catholic who gave sacrificially to the Church and supported numerous charitable causes. In his homily, Rev. Fr. John Oke emphasised the Christian hope of eternal life, urging the congregation to emulate the exemplary lifestyle of the late financial guru.
In a tribute delivered on behalf of the family, Emeka Aneke Jr. described his father as “a prototype Nigerian” who cultivated friendships across tribes and religions, living a life devoid of prejudice. According to him, Aneke believed firmly that respect should be accorded to all faiths and consistently used his resources and influence to uplift others.
Background in Global Finance
Peter Chukwuemeka Aneke built a distinguished career in global finance, earning respect for his expertise, discipline and strategic insight. He was associated with the international professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he worked both in Nigeria and the United States of America.
During his years in practice, Aneke contributed to high-level financial advisory, auditing and corporate governance assignments, distinguishing himself in one of the world’s most competitive professional environments. Colleagues recall his strong ethical standards, technical competence and dedication to excellence—qualities that earned him recognition within and beyond Nigeria’s financial community.
His professional journey positioned him as a mentor to emerging accountants and financial consultants, many of whom credit him for guiding their career paths. Beyond the corporate world, he was known for supporting educational and community development initiatives in Lagos and Enugu State.
Final Interment in Enugu
The final leg of the funeral rites took place on Saturday, February 21, at his residence in Umuchime Okpatu, Enugu State, following a funeral service. A thanksgiving and final outing service was later held at Holy Family Church, Okpatu, Udi Local Government Area.
Family members, friends and associates from Lagos, Enugu and overseas attended the ceremonies, describing his passing as the end of an era but celebrating what they called “a life well lived.”
Late Peter Chukwuemeka Aneke is remembered as a financial connoisseur, devoted family man, community leader and philanthropist whose legacies of integrity, generosity and bridge-building continue to inspire many.
