Prophet Olowoporoku Bags Honour as Bible Society of Nigeria Marks 60th Anniversary
It was a moment of celebration, reflection and honour on Friday as the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) marked its 60th Anniversary alongside its 17th Founders’ Day Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony at the prestigious Shell–Zenith Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Among the distinguished award recipients was the General Overseer of Love of Christ Chapel International, Prophet Peter Adeniyi Olowoporoku, who was honoured alongside eight other eminent personalities at the epoch-making ceremony themed “Celebrating Impact and Building a Legacy of Hope.”The high-profile event attracted notable Nigerians from across sectors, including former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), and former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was represented by a former Administrator of Bayelsa State, Mr. Paul Obi.
In his welcome address, the President and Board Chairman of the Bible Society of Nigeria, Dr. Olubunmi Banwo, reaffirmed the global mandate of the Bible Society, stressing its commitment to making the Scriptures available, accessible and affordable to people in languages they clearly understand.
Dr. Banwo noted that although BSN was formally established in Nigeria in 1966, the translation of the Bible into indigenous languages dates back several centuries. He highlighted the immense spiritual, moral and social benefits the Society has contributed to Nigeria and the world at large through scripture translation, distribution and engagement.
The highlight of the ceremony was the award presentation, during which Prophet Peter Adeniyi Olowoporoku, elegantly dressed in white and accompanied by his wife, mounted the podium to receive his honour. In his acceptance remarks, the revered cleric expressed heartfelt appreciation to the BSN leadership and Board for finding him worthy of the recognition, describing the award as deeply meaningful and encouraging.
Prophet Olowoporoku is the General Overseer of Love of Christ Chapel International, headquartered in Lagos with outreaches extending to the United Kingdom. A renowned author, revivalist and teacher of the Word, he is widely known for a ministry focused on setting captives free, raising kingdom-minded believers, and spreading messages of mercy, power and wisdom.
Beyond the pulpit, Prophet Olowoporoku has embraced digital evangelism, reaching a global audience through platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and his ministry website, where his teachings emphasize intimacy with God, spiritual power and divine guidance.
The colourful ceremony once again underscored the Bible Society of Nigeria’s enduring legacy of faith, service and impact, while celebrating individuals whose lives and ministries continue to inspire hope and spiritual growth across generations.
