Hon. Dr. Alhaja Biola Bakare, the Osun State Commissioner for Tourism, emerged as one of the top honourees at the 16th edition of the prestigious PERA Awards held at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja. The colourful event, which celebrated outstanding Nigerians, also had the revered Ooni of Ife represented by Dr. Bakare.
Dr. Bakare was honoured as Nigeria’s Best Performing Commissioner, a recognition she described as both humbling and encouraging. Speaking after receiving the award, she expressed deep appreciation to the organisers, noting that PERA has consistently upheld excellence in selecting its award recipients.
“I am truly grateful and honoured. PERA Awards has maintained a high standard over the years, and I am glad to be recognised among such distinguished personalities. This award inspires me to continue serving with passion and dedication,” she said.
The convener of PERA Awards, Mr. Shola, urged governments and the public to support the annual event, stressing that the platform continues to showcase exceptional talent and creativity across Nigeria.
Dr. Bakare also used the occasion to highlight the ongoing transformation of Osun State’s tourism sector under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration. She revealed that tourism development was one of the governor’s earliest priorities, leading to the renovation of several historic sites across the state.
“From the moment His Excellency assumed office, tourism became a top priority. We have already begun restoring major historical sites, and the people of Osun are responding positively to the renewed focus on tourism,” she stated.
Reflecting on the achievements of the current administration, now in its third year, she emphasised the government’s commitment to infrastructure, welfare, and sustainable development.
“What you see now is only the beginning. There is still so much more we plan to achieve. If the good people of Osun give us the opportunity to continue, the next two years will bring greater progress,” she added.
Dr. Bakare expressed optimism that the people of Osun would sustain their support for the administration, noting that many residents have already testified to the positive changes.
